Last year, I started the first Free-motion Challenge Quilting Along, a series of free machine quilting videos, almost on a whim. I wanted to see if anyone would be interested in improving their free-motion quilting skills while quilting along with me on a project. The response was amazing!
Since that first challenge, I have released several other free-motion challenges, all focusing on a different technique or design. From feather to geometric dot to dot quilting, we have learned a lot together.
Click here to see details about all the previous challenges.
After being on hiatus for a few months, I am excited to announce that another Free-motion Challenge Quilting Along is finally coming!
I have been working hard behind the scenes on all the details and it’s going to be better than ever! Find out all the information, including details and dates in a Live Facebook Chat on Oct. 9th at 3pm CST.
In the meantime, you can check out all the previous Free-motion Challenge Quilting Alongs by clicking here.
I have this kit and I cannot find the challenge anywhere. I know it was in 2019 …..
Hi Angela – looking forward to starting the challenge. I am behind because I have been out of town but now I’m ready to jump in. I have purchased the panel and would also like to purchase the thread kit which I understand is out of stock but is on reorder.
I am wondering in the meantime if you could share the Glide thread color numbers that are part of the kit in case I might be able to find a source for them. I would hate to get farther behind in the challenge.
Thanks for all the wonderful quilting designs, tips, and ideas you share on YouTube, in your challenges, and on the Midnight Quilt Show. I always find inspiration and encouragement that I can master these designs with time and practice.
Thanks in advance for your attention to this request.
Thank you for your free motion quilt alongs you have given me the courage to conquer my machine this past year. I have the prairie flowers quilt (pattern from jenny doan)on my longarm right now and you timed it right for the nine patch block quilt along. Thank you
Will the challenge videos be only on facebook or can they be on youtube? Really excited
They are on Youtube!!
Angela, what color are you going to start with? I want to load my challenge quilt but don’t know which is the top or bottom.
We are starting with the Nine-patch blocks.
The thread kit is out of stock. Will it be restocked and available in time for the Challenge?
It will be back in stock, but I am not sure when the thread manufacturer will send it to us. I will definitely keep you updated!
I bought the panel and marked my calendar and very excited. Here’s the thing – I didn’t realize some of the live sessions will be during work hours. I will be able to access those at later dates to keep up – right?
Definitely!
Im a little confused… I thought we’re we’re practicing free motion quilting and have to make several quilt blocks but I read that we are making a9 patch block? I’ll go to you tube and see what i can find out. Sounds like a good time, aa I’m thankful your going to teach us free motion!
Angela…I appreciate all you do and after watching your facebook live video…Just have to say that you need to take care of yourself first…You look stressed ….It will all be fine ! I can wait…not the end of the world xoxo
Can I buy the backing separately from you. Already have the kit.
Thanks so much for all of the challenges you have had , I have learned a great deal about this from you. You must importantly taught me how to be comfortable with the imperfections of the FMQ way. To allow myself not to be perfect. Thanks for your non stuffy look at this technique. I told myself one day that I had, had enough of starting over and took a 54 x 54 piece of fabric sandwiched it with a baking secured with spray starch on top and bottom. works just as well as fuseable. I sectioned it off and went to town. I have been having a blast ever since. Your awesome and thank you for helping me relax and enjoy the time.
Thank you for putting this together for us! I am doing the happy dance!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY 🎂🎉🎈🎁
How about a sneak peak? 🙂
I would be interested in this, but am another who does not do Facebook. I watch your blog, so that is where i get my info. Thanks for considering those of us who do not do Facebook.
I am yet another who does not use FB — hoping you’ll share the info here on your blog as well.
I don’t Facebook, will the info be available on your website? Thanks for being willing to share your knowledge with everyone. Love your designs and better finished than perfect mantra.
I can’t wait. I wanted to quilt along before but my husbands health took my priorities. All is well and h’e doing fine after his heart transplant thank the Lord! Hopefully I’ll find time to play along. Thanks!
That’s 10am HST on a work day. Hope you will just post a video I can watch with a link to the kit.
Yeah, I was needing another challenge! Will you have a kit for this one?
I am another person not on Facebook. Will I be able to take this challenge with info coming on this blog? I appreciate all you do for the quilting world! Thanks a bunch!
I hope you will post links to the Facebook Live posts on this blog for those pf us who don’t use Facebook.
I have looked everywhere to find a class on free motion quilting so it is great to have a teacher like you. You’ve definitely been an inspiration and I’m learning so much. Thanks and I’m excited to try more.
Looking forward to giving this a try! Always room to improve!! Thanks for the challenge!
Angela, I am looking forward to this challenge and learning so much from you. I have been doing free motion since I started quilting 11 years ago, when I was told I would be a great-grandmother to twins!! I am self taught but jumped right in, learning as I go. My question is where do I find the pattern for the quilt sandwich you will be using. I have looked on your website, but couldn’t find it. Thank you for this opportunity to learn.
I am so happy to have received the notice of the upcoming free-motion challenge quilting along. I cannot tell you how much I have learned from watching your series. You are simply amazing Angela. I love your relaxed, almost carefree attitude while quilting and have perhaps the best lesson I have learned is to just relax and don’t aim for perfection! We can always echo, echo echo!!! Cannot wait to see what you have planned for us.
I am so excited to participate in this challenge!! I have to work that day, so how will I find the details once the announcement is complete?
Always a wonderful way to learn new techniques and have fun along the way!
I am looking forward to doing this challenge in real-time this year. I am so grateful that you are sharing your love of quilting with us/me. My quilting journey has been a learn as I go adventure. I figure as long as I am having fun and learning it can’t be bad. My first quilt is nothing like what I am doing today, but that is all about practice and learning new skills. Thank you again for the free motion challenge.
