The newest free-motion challenge quilting along is starting on Monday, and I am so excited! All the planning, filming, editing and, of course, quilting has led us to this point.
Are you ready for it? Check out the challenge page to get a supply list and to see the schedule. The first video in the challenge will cover working with straight edge rulers, on a sewing machine and a longarm.
Live Chat Recap: The Beginner Basics
In this week’s live chat, I shared the beginner basics of quilting with rulers. You can rewatch it below.
If you are new to machine quilting with rulers, try spending a little time this weekend practicing the basics, so that you’re ready to get right to the designs on Monday.
Also, be sure to check out next week’s live chat where I will be answering your questions about the first challenge video. Click here to set a reminder.
Giveaway!
To celebrate the kick-off of the challenge, I am having two giveaways. Both winners will be picked next Thursday and notified via email. I will also announce the winners on Thursday’s live chat.
Giveaway #1
The first giveaway is a big one (if I do say so myself!)
One lucky quilter will win my quilted challenge panel.
I quilted it as a way to decide which designs I should use during the challenge. It’s sure to provide some quilty inspiration for the winner.
Anyone that purchases a panel before Thursday, October 1st will be entered to win. (Panels purchased prior to today will still be entered). So if you have been meaning to buy one, now is the time.
Click here to learn more about the panel.

I can’t seem to find the last tutorial for week 7, the borders? Is there going to be one?
Angela, I am taking part in the ruler challenge, but am having some problems. I haven’t spent a lot of time on ruler in the past, it just wasn’t time yet. The problem I am having is that when I quilt diagonally from lower right to upper left, it feels like it is getting stuck on something. If I just run the machine over the same space without quilting, it moves fine.
Also my ruler base seems to rock back and forth as I move across it, is that normal?
Thank you for your help.
I’m enjoying the FMQ with rulers class very much but realize I only downloaded the directions for the first straight ruler class. How do I get to the downloads for Week 2 and 3 and the next weeks? Thanks again. I am learning to love 💕 my rulers😍
Quilting with rulers quilt along week 3….do I find it on Utube, or your site? I am not finding the scheduled class for today
I have a Husqvarna Viking Sapphire 850 home sewing machine. I always thought it was a low shank, but when I attached the ruler foot, I cannot move the quilt sandwich with the straight ruler. This is my first attempt with rulers and now I am very confused. I changed the setting of the foot to the highest position, but I still cannot move the quilt. I have no problem moving Slim to the back, right, left or front of the needle. I can quilt to the front, but not sideways or backwards. Is my sewing machine really a high shank? Thanks
Did anyone respond to your question? Or did you find the answer?
From what I read your ruler foot is holding the quilt sandwich so tightly that you can’t move it? Is that correct?
In your second to the last sentence you say you can quilt to the front, but not sideways or backwards. Does that sentence pertain to the straight edge ruler?
Does a part of your machine hit the straight edge ruler as the needle goes up and down?
Did you purchase the special low shank rulers?
Are we suppose to assemble to quilt top and back before the challenge starts? I ordered the panel the border and the back. Also what is the other panel for? The colourful one
