In this two-part class, Angela Walters will show you how to create and quilt your own wholecloth quilt. Learn how to design and mark out your quilt then quilt your masterpiece! You can take this class on one of our longarm quilting machines or bring your own sewing machine. Registration fee includes everything to make a small wholecloth wallhanging; fabric for the quilt top, marking pen, batting, backing & binding, and thread.

In this 4 hour class, you’ll learn how to care for your Featherweight machine so that you can enjoy sewing on it for years to come. Experienced teachers, John & Jennifer Boren will guide you through the many steps in caring for your machine and will have needed parts and supplies available for purchase.

Join us for a machine quilting retreat! In this informative and inspirational retreat, you’ll improve your machine quilting skills with Angela’s guidance and support. Work on the retreat project (included with registration) or bring your own project to work on.
The focus of this weekend is machine quilting, but you can work on whatever you like….whether it’s a piecing project or a quilt top that you’ve been meaning to get to. Participate in “mini-lectures” and demos throughout the weekend with Angela. Then, spend the rest of your time working on your project, looking at the quilts or visiting the quilt shop. Angela will be your hostess, giving guidance, answering questions and encouraging you along your machine quilting journey!

The Next Steps longarm class series is for longarm owners that know the basics of using their machine, and want to learn even more! These quick class sessions are focused on a particular aspect of using the longarm machine, in which you’ll learn tips and get more confidence with your longarm. Part hands-on class, part Q&A, you’ll leave these sessions with even more longarming knowledge. These sessions are taught on Handi Quilter Amara longarm quilting machines, but these lessons can be applied to any machine.

Session 1 - Jan. 4th : Tips for Loading the Frame Quickly and Easily. Learn the different loading styles, tips for faster loading, and how to work through the quilt to ensure a square, flat quilt.
Session 2 - Jan. 11th: Threads & Tension Learn how to use different types of threads, troubleshooting common thread issues & choosing the perfect color for your quilt.
Session 3 - Jan. 18th: Longarming with Rulers. Learn the basics of longarm quilting with rulers and templates as well as how to avoid common ruler mistakes.
Session 4 - Jan. 25th: Free-motion Tips. Learn the tips to creating smooth, beautiful designs. We’ll discuss different stitching modes, perfect posture and more!

This two day in-depth training session, Angela will be showing you the ins-and-outs of longarming on Handi-Quilter longarms, but the skills learned in this class can be applied to any longarm quilting machine. In this quick, informal class, we will use the longarm quilting machines to create an adorable project that you can take home with you! Registration fee includes all the supplies needed to make the project. All you have to do is show up.
Layer, quilt, cut and repeat! Just four steps to a stunning quilted project that can used as a table runner, wall hanging or made into a bag. In this “make and take” class, Angela will go over the basics of reverse appliqué, and show you how fun it is! Then you’ll work on your own reverse appliqué project. Even if you’ve never touched a longarm before, these projects are easy and fun to make!

Learning how to longarm with rulers is a skill that helps all quilters, from a complete beginner to the experienced quilter. In this hands-on longarm class, Angela Walters will show how to quilt with different kinds of rulers as well as provide design inspiration for each. To provide the best experience, the class is limited to 12 students. You are sure to get plenty of interaction with Angela and will leave the class feeling more confident with your machine quilting.
In this class, you’ll learn:
- How to quilt with several different types of rulers, including straight edge, wavy, curvy, pointy and cut out rulers.
- Proper techniques as well as designs for each type
- How to combine rulers for intricate-looking designs
- Ways to use rulers in all areas, even ones that are larger or smaller than your ruler
