To say I love machine quilting is an understatement

I started Quilting Is My Therapy to create a place where anyone who loves machine quilting could find the resources they need for inspiration and instruction. What started out as a hobby turned into a lifelong passion. If there’s one thing I love as much as quilting, it’s talking about quilting.

Some Fun Facts About Me!

I have 3 kids with my husband and an assorted menagerie of pets (including goats, chickens, and alpacas!).

My friends joke that I live my life on a caffeine-to-cabernet cycle. Coffee in the morning and wine at night!

When I'm not quilting, I love to be outside! Hiking, gardening, and roasting weenies are just some of the things you might find me doing.

Some of My Favorite Projects

Woodland Drive

One of my favorite things (besides quilting, of course) is visiting the National Parks. When they released fabric panels commemorating all the parks, I knew that I had to make a quilt with them! I decided to choose panels of all the parks my husband, Jeremy, has visited. I designed the quilt pattern so that the background would somewhat resemble mountains while also letting the panels shine. I quilted the background areas with nature-inspired designs and also used the quilting to highlight the details in the panels. I loved the pattern so much, I decided to feature it on an episode of the Midnight Quilter.

Fabulous Feathers

I just love teaching others to love machine quilting as much as I do! I designed this fabric panel especially for my Fabulous Feathers Free-motion Challenge Quilting Along videos. While I feel comfortable teaching machine quilting, designing fabric is something that is still a little new to me andI was so happy with how the panel turned out! The rainbow colors just make me so happy and it was the perfect design for showing different types of feather quilting designs.

Midnight Stars

This is the quilt that started it all! I designed this quilt pattern for the first episode of the Midnight Quilter video series. The quilt is easy to make, just some half-square triangle blocks, but I think that the layout gives it a unique look. Plus, it was just so fun to quilt! I used several of my favorite machine quilting designs; feathers, swirls and geometric shapes.

Where it all began…

I started my quilting career many moons ago with the help of my husband’s grandpa. He patiently taught me the art of quilting by helping me make my first 9-patch quilt that’s still on my bed today! In the years since then, I’ve added author, teacher, and fabric designer to my resume.

I’ve written several books including “Free-Motion Quilting with Angela Walters,” “In the Studio with Angela Walters,” and the “Free-motion Quilting Workbook.” I love traveling to teach quilting classes in-person and online. My goal is for everyone who loves quilting to have a place to express their creativity.
