Learning new quilting techniques and spending time with other quilters is the best therapy!
All classes are held at the Quilting Is My Therapy Event Center at 400 N Missouri St, Liberty MO 64068 (just a few blocks north of the shop). Park in back (in parking lot) and use entrance in the parking lot. Please note that there are 8 steps up to the door, there will be someone on hand to help you carry your items up the stairs if needed.

Please Take Note of our Class Policies
Classes start on time. Plan to arrive 30-15 minutes early to set up and purchase any needed supplies.
We love children, and pets, but please leave them at home for class.
If you are unable to attend the class and notify the shop 7 days prior to the class date, you will receive store credit for the amount of the class fee. Special events such as retreats and guest teachers require 14 days notification.
Minimum enrollment for classes is three students. Every effort will be made to avoid canceling classes; however, if the minimum enrollment has not been met within 7 days of the first class session, it may be canceled. Students will be contacted by phone and issued a store credit.

Not only will you learn several different border designs, you’ll also learn how to approach these areas and how to quilt them efficiently. Then, you’ll learn background designs that coordinate with each border design, giving you even more design options for your own quilts. You do not have to have longarm experience to take this class. From highlighting motifs to filling in large areas, filler designs are used in so many different ways. In this hands-on longarm class, Angela Walters will share her favorite fillers including swirls, leaves, wishbones, pebbles and more. Learn which designs work in smaller areas and which are best when given room to grow.

Motif quilting designs can add a custom, detailed look to your quilting. By too many quilters are scared to give them a try. Creating motifs is actually as easy as following a few steps. From elegant feather motifs, to more basic continuous curve motifs, this class will leave you excited to try them out on your quilt tops!
In this class you’ll:
- Learn the basic formula for creating motifs
- Create different motifs for all different areas on the quilt, including blocks, borders and backgrounds.
- See how to “highlight” or “hide” motifs with different filler designs.

Feathers quilting designs are elegant, versatile and oh-so-fun to quilt! If machine quilting feathers has you stumped, or you want some feather design inspiration, this hands-on longarm class is for you. Whether you have never touched a longarm quilting machine, or have owned one for years, you’ll leave this class inspired to quilt feathers in several different ways on your quilts.
In this informative class, you’ll learn:
- Tips for machine quilting on a stand up longarm machine
- How to quilt several different types of feather designs, including variations
- Common Feather Frustrations and how to avoid them
- Where to use feathers on your quilt tops.

Create your own thread painted masterpiece in this hands-on longarm quilting class. Thread painting adds gorgeous detail and depth to your quilting, and it’s actually easier than you might think!
In this class, you’ll:
- Learn about different types of threads and how to use them to create different effects on your quilts
- Gain the confidence to deal with thread tension and thread issues
- See how to “blend” colors together to add shading a depth to areas of your quilt
- Learn how to create texture with different designs

Learning how to longarm with rulers is a skill that helps all quilters, from a complete beginner to the experienced quilter.
In this class, Angela Walters will show how to use several different kinds of rulers as well as provide design inspiration for each. Get hands on practice and try out several different rulers of each type to see what you prefer.
In this class, you’ll learn:
- How to quilt with several different types of rulers, including straight edge, wavy, curvy, pointy and cut out rulers.
- Proper techniques as well as designs for each type
- How to combine rulers for intricate-looking designs
- Ways to use rulers in all areas, even ones that are larger or smaller than your ruler

Part longarm playdate, part longarm demo.
Join Angela Walters for a fun, informal evening of longarm machine quilting demos and drinks. Angela will demonstrate longarm quilting designs on the Handi Quilter Amara and answer your questions. Plus there will be longarms available for you to try out. Whether you’re interested in learning how longarm quilting machines work, or just want to watch how Angela create designs on them, you’re in for a treat.

Due to the special nature of this event, class fees are non-refundable. If you are unable to make it to the class, you may allow someone else in your place (just let us know) or if the class is sold out, we can attempt to fill your spot from the wait list. If we are able to do so, your class fee will be refunded.

We would love to invite you to a wonderful weekend of quilting, connecting and learning at the QIMT Fall Retreat. Angela Walters and Joni Burgess, your retreat hostesses, will be on hand to make sure you have the absolute best experience possible!
Registration includes three sewing days in our spacious event center, two catered dinners plus snacks and drinks, giveaways, demos and exclusive specials! Bring your machine and a project to work on or work on our optional retreat project. (More details about that coming soon.) There will be ironing stations, cutting tables as well as common quilting supplies on hand.
Cancellation Policy: A full refund will be issued in the form of an online store credit up to 60 days prior to the Retreat. If you are unable to make it to the Retreat, you may allow someone else in your place (just let us know) or if the Retreat is sold out, we can attempt to fill your spot if there is a wait list. If we are able to do so, your fee will be refunded in the form of an online store credit.
