I have been keeping a secret from you, but now I can finally share!! Meet my new friends Slim, Squiggy, Shorty and Archie!
These are my brand new machine quilting rulers…..and let me tell you, I am so freaking excited that they are finally here.
While their names are fun and silly, they are seriously awesome at helping machine quilters quilt a range of different designs.
Just a few more examples of designs quilted with the rulers. These rulers are designed to work on home sewing machines as well as on a longarm.
Why now?
So why am I making rulers? Even though I have been machine quilting for 15 years, I never felt I had anything new to add to the plethora of machine quilting rulers that are available. But now that’s changed
Teaming up with Creative Grids has allowed me to design rulers that are going to be of value to machine quilters, no matter their machine or skill level!
Besides versatile shapes, they come with the exclusive grip that Creative Grids is known for. Plus markings in black and white, which means you can see them no matter what color of fabric that you are using!
Like a proud mama showing off pictures of my babies, I put together a video that introduces each of them to you:
I’d love to hear what you think about machine quilting with rulers…..is it something you love to do? Or something that scares you?
Stay tuned, there will be more videos on each ruler……I can’t wait!
Do these rulers work with high shank ruler foot
What is the size of the rilers? Are they 1/4″ height? Thanks
Can these rulers be used on a long arm quilting machine?
I have a Westalee low shank ruler foot. Can I use your machine quilt templates? I’m pretty sure I can use them on the outside of the template but what about on the inside of squiggly?
I am wondering the same. I am new to free motion quilting & using tools. I am told it makes a difference if the template is for high or low shank. I need low shank.
Angela love your new rulers. I have a high shank Janome 9900 machine and have the Westalee ruler foot. Can I use your rulers with my machine and the Westalee ruler foot?
I’ve played around with squiggy and Archie and I love them. I really want to do a cathedral window type all over quilting pattern. Do you see circle templates coming out soon? I’m not sure which of the products available would be easiest to use with my Bernini 700 series.

Hello ,
I love your program so much .
I want to buy these quilting rulers, but I can’t find the references “below” that you talk about. So, where do I buy these tools?
So sorry! Here’s the link to purchase them: https://quilting-is-my-therapy.myshopify.com/collections/frontpage/products/machine-quilting-ruler-set-designed-by-angela-walters-and-creative-grids
Hope that helps!!
Oh…I’m so excited to get started! My husband purchased the set of rulers for my birthday and they arrived this week. I was wondering if there is a special foot that I need to use with the ruler. Could you please explain a little about the foot needed? Thank you!
A ruler foot does make it a little easier to quilt with them. Here’s a link to a video where I go over the suggested supplies for quilting with rulers: https://youtu.be/yKBIDCU3xGQ
Hope that helps!
Where are these rulers available for purchase?
You can get them through my website, here’s a link to more information about them: https://quilting-is-my-therapy.myshopify.com/collections/frontpage/products/machine-quilting-ruler-set-designed-by-angela-walters-and-creative-grids
Hi Angela I’d love to purchase these rulers but I cannot seem to buy them in the U.K. any ideas on where I can purchase them?
Thanks
L Shakespeare
Yes I have the same question as I have searched the UK website . We need them in the UK too!
They will be available through Creative Grids UK, I don’t think they are quite in stock there yet, though.
I need better instructions on how to use the Squiggy ruler. Your video didn’t help. You say you can use them with two- and three-inch borders, so I drew lines on my practice sandwich. There don’t seem to be any lines on the ruler that you can line up with edge of the border. Are we just supposed to guess? Also, a circular stop on the ruler would be a lot nicer than the squared-off things.
I am having the same problem. I can’t seem to recreate any of the patterns shown on the sheet that came with the ruler. Feeling frustrated and hoping for more info/videos! I did mark my own registration line at the top of the curve with tape but still not getting it lined up properly. Grrr!
Hi! I do have videos out on all the rulers. Here’s a link to them: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLEhp5XdH4BaEjPQddoSGmBUFIMzuYT1dc
Let me know if you have any questions!!
I just released videos on how to use the rulers, including Squiggy. There are reference lines as well as the needle stop. Here’s a more in-depth video on Squiggy. https://youtu.be/rVTK9HA4DL8
Let me know if you are still having trouble with them.
New to this avenue of quilting. Question is on home sewing machines, do they have stitch regulators to help control stitching length? I have tried quilting but stitches are not constant in size. Any other advice? Thx Kathy
Yes, you can get a stitch regulator on a home sewing machine if you have the $$. With practice your stitch size will get better without a stitch regulator. In the meantime, if you use a matching thread or invisible thread, no one will ever notice.
I recently was told to slow my machine speed down. I did, and saw instant improvement! It is the best tip I have ever found.
Hi Angela, So excited as your new rulers arrived yesterday. So looking forward to using them after Christmas. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your family.
Thank you so much, I hope you had a great Christmas as well!!
I ordered mine yesterday and can’t wait to find out how to use them on my domestic machine. How exciting! Are some videos out already to show how to use them? Do I need to order a special foot for my machine?
I have ordered my rulers as well as the ruler foot for my JUKI-Tl 2010q. You mentioned in one of the videos demonstrating the rulers that you could go from using the rulers to regular free motion quilting.
Can fmq be done using the ruler foot or does it have to be changed back to my regular fmq foot each time? Would appreciate an answer as this has just occurred to me. Thanks Angela
A
I just leave my ruler foot on all the time, whether I am just free-motion quilting or using a ruler. Hope that helps!!
Here’s a link to videos that I have made for them: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLEhp5XdH4BaEjPQddoSGmBUFIMzuYT1dc
I am also working on more videos that show more of the quilting, so stay tuned for that!
HI Angela, Love your new rulers and can’t wait to try these babies out. Placing the order now for them. The black and white lines are such a great idea, as well as all the other additions you did that are not on any of the current rulers. What a great Christmas gift to me from me.
Hi Angela: Placed my order yesterday for new family members. Looking forward to learning to machine quilt on my new long arm & sit down with them. Although most of the time I get frustrated with trying to figure out how you line things up. Not sure if freehanding it is always the best, but many times I will as I get frustrated with where my line is stitched (not where I envisioned it.) Hopefully you give a few tips on that. And my quilt tops are so excited that they are coming out of hiding throughout the house and finally being finished. They told me to tell you thanks! (as well as my co-workers and family who are receiving them.). Peggy
Hi Angela,
Love the rulers, and the fact that it looks like you have given good instructions on usage on your packaging. But I live in the UK, and shipping costs to UK are more than the rulers themselves! Are you planning on selling these via any UK stockists? Or do you have a cheaper postage option for the UK? I don’t mind waiting for my item(s), but don’t want to pay more than the item in carriage costs!!!

No, there are no instructions on the packaging at all.
congrats for the rulers! I am waiting for my new sewing machine! a new gift for it soon!
I have wanted to quilt with rulers for awhile. I am definitely going to buy your rulers! But first I need to figure out what type of shank foot I need for my machine… maybe you could help a girl out with that information..
Are these 4.5 mm (for high shank domestic machines) or 6 mm (for long arms)? I would love a Squiggly but need to know if I can use it with my machine. Thanks!!!
What type of quilting foot is required to use these rulers. I have a Baby Lock Jazz!!!!
Cool rulers, and cute Quilty gifts, but still no V-neck T-shirts! LOL that’s what I am waiting for… 🙂
Just ordered the set of four rulers – love the needle stops, the Creative Grids connection, and the silly shapes/names! Exciting!!!
Are there any instructions on different ways to use these?
I love using rulers. I will definitely give them a try. Love that your rulers will make the designs that you use so often.
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU for offering such affordable rulers! I will be purchasing one with each new paycheck beginning the first of the year, as the current paychecks are already spoken for. I am so anxious to start enjoying the precision that I want to have in my quilting. I hope you and your family have a very blessed holiday season.
Hi, Angela! I enjoy having rulers as a tool for free motion, especially for grid work, even spacing or smooth arcs. I already ordered shorty and squiggy and I think you have great features on your rulers: quarter inch thickness, cg grip dots, genius black and white reference lines, versatile shapes, and the needle stops! I’ll be looking for any and all of your video tutorials. Thanks for always giving your all for us quilters.
